Moravian Nights!

Saturday 18th May we were delighted to be the entertainment at the Spring Festival held by Lower Wyke Moravian Church. Here’s some of our ladies, raring to go in the warmup room:After the locals had enjoyed what smelled like a lovely meal, we took to the stage to run through some of our favourite songs from our current repertoire. Sadly as we were all on stage, we couldn’t get a picture, you’ll just have to take our word for it!We broke midway through our performance for a stand up sit down bingo session ran by Janet (complete with prizes) followed by a short set by our girls Jaunty Angle. They went down a storm, especially Ni’s Shirley Bassey moment! They’re a tough act to follow, but we rejoined the stage to finish off with a few British pop classics culminating in Bohemian Rhapsody (thanks LABBS!)The feedback from the audience was brilliant, everybody had a great time and we loved every moment on that stage. One of the organisers was heard to say ‘I thought you couldn’t beat a male voice choir, but I was wrong!’ We’ll take that gladly!Happy Chimes at the Moravian Church May 2019Til next time,

Pennine Chimes at #labbshc19

27th – 28th April 2019 was an exciting weekend for Pennine Chimes, as once again LABBS were hosting a Harmony College education event at the University of Nottingham.

11 members of our chorus made the trip down, and we could be found in both Red and Blue Choruses as well as the Personal Development stream!

Aside from the early start due to the fire alarm on Saturday morning leaving some of us slightly fresher than expected, we had an incredible time. From the main chorus streams under the direction of Jo Braham and Sally McLean, to the personal development stream, the huge variety of pick and mix sessions and even via Bugs Bunny’s ‘What’s Opera, Doc?’ – the weekend was incredibly inspiring and memorable.

We had two first time attendees of Harmony College in the Team Pennine contingent and they had this to say:

“It’s been a weekend of hard work, but it’s been absolutely worth it! Having people from the director’s stream in with us gave us a new appreciation for how much work a director is really doing – even if they make it look easy!” – Mandy

“I went to a pick and mix session about tapping into your lived experiences. It’s incredible how different a song can be based on the emotions you’re putting into it from your own life story” – Pauline

“Singing in such a large chorus was very different for me, but it was amazing. The confidence I had in such a big chorus, I’m going to apply to ours too” – Lisa P

“I really enjoyed the personal development stream, there was so much to learn! Even when things were a little beyond my theoretical knowledge, there was always something I could take away from the session.” – Janet

We’re so glad we have access to such incredible events thanks to LABBS, giving us the chance to learn, to meet new people and to bond more with our own chorus too!

2019 AGM & Charity of the Year

So here we are in 2019 already! That can only mean one thing – time for our Annual General Meeting (AGM)

We got together at our usual rehearsal venue Tuesday 29th January to elect the new committee, give out the attendance award and set out our plans for the year.

I’m pleased to introduce the Pennine Chimes committee for 2019

L-R PRO Gill, Vice Chair Becky, Chair Mandy, Chorus Rep Marilyn, Membership Secretary Kath, Secretary / Social Media Lead Tracey, and Treasurer Lisa

The attendance award was given out, and for the second year in a row the trophy was awarded jointly to Tracey and Anita – can you make it a hat trick ladies?!

Departing Chair Jo was delighted to hand out some long service awards for 25 years in LABBS to Lynne, Anita and Anne

And finally, in her capacity as newly elected Chair, Mandy designated our Charity of the year for 2019 would be Shelter! 10% of all earnings this year will be donated to them, and 100% of any bucket collections taken. We look forward to updating with a total as the year progresses.

Til next time,

Festive Fun

Here at Pennine Chimes we love getting out and about singing carols at local events over the festive period, and as ever we kept ourselves busy this year!

These sing outs really ring in the season for us, especially as we started the 2018 season in beautiful historic Haworth. The weather may not have been perfect but the festive spirit is always in great supply, and Main Street is a haven for dog spotters (we have a few amongst us!)

Keeping warm with a hot drink as we keep festive spirits up!

Our next two events were at our local Bradford Markets, firstly in Kirkgate Market then in the Oastler Centre.

At Kirkgate Market we got a new temporary director who taught us how to floss, though I’m not sure we fully got the hang of it…

Oastler Market is often the last of the festive season for us and we absolutely love singing here and interacting with the local community, it really gives us the festive feels!

Fortunately for us a pop up festive bar was being hosted by Roswithas Deli and The Sparrow, so a few of our ladies celebrated the end of the season with a toasty warm Gluhwein.

Cheers to the festive season!

Cheers, see you in 2019!
